GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given by WCDF to distinguish players.

Congratulations! to Kim Wills and Vonda Jones as Tennessee State Open Women Champions.

In the Youth Division, Alex Holmes placed 1st and Trey Stanley placed 2nd. Congratulations to these young men!

WCDF Rating No.7 (through June 2010) released 10/20/2010.

"T" separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points. Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.

In the 3:00 pm business meeting we voted on re-pairing opponents so that it could only occur in last round when necessary.

We also voted that a 3 point bye round would be awarded as the first bye, thereafter to the lowest opponent, the first bye is 3 points and thereafter only 2 points would be awarded to multiple byes.

It was announced that Bill and Frances McClintock celebrated their 57th Anniversary on March 4th as their wedding date was 3/4/1954, and on the light side... Bobby Rice received a nice plaque distinguishing him as "Chief Rascal of the Year" with all privileges and rights to practice rascalism unlimited. You can guest who was behind this zone prank.

We had 52 players from 14 states (14 Masters, 21 Majors, and 17 Minors) 15 from TN; 10 from NC and KY; 3 from IN; 2 from OH, AL, GA, and TX; 1 from WV, PA, MO, LA, MS, and IL.

Michael and Alex Holmes were 1st round late entrants so Michael was paired with Morrison in the Masters division and Alex got a 2 point bye in the 1st round Minors group.

Frank Davis our referee and Mary Davis, scorekeeper did a fantastic job as usual.

We received plenty of door prizes supplied by several local merchants, Wilson County Visitors Center, Wilson County Chamber of Commerce, and Wilson County Bank. All in the form of meal coupons & discounts, and donated items. The winners were drawn at random.

Management at Americas Best Value Inn & Suites again confirmed their appreciation for the TN Open venue by providing pizza and soft drinks on Friday evening which everyone enjoyed! This makes the fifth year TN Checker Association has chosen Americas Best Value Inn & Suites after moving it from Best Western Executive Inn, Lebanon in 2006 which ended that long time venue.

Alex Moiseyev suggested we take up a collection in appreciation of Kim Willis's Youth Checker Program which yielded $276.00 so she can continue her worthwhile endeavor.

We appreciated the donations and contributions which totaled $2,382.00 total cash prize fund. Frank Davis, Pres. of TCA reported that $930 was from the Lindsay Fund which we are most appreciative of Gene's generosity.

Many locals, and veteran players visited but didn't play like: Hugh Burton, Anthony Bishop, Royce Burnett, Carl Reno, Steve Watkins, etc.

Carl Reno was selling his extensive checker library. He brought in hundreds of classic and rare books.

Most of the TN players took time to sign the inspirational cards to Wade Holder which I will hand deliver when I see him again.

Many wives attended, I recall seeing: Peggy Burton, Linda Choate, Bea Christian, Faye Harvell, Edna Hedrick, Judy Hughes, Shirley Keen, Glenda Mays, Frances McClintock, Gay McClard, Bernice Powell, Gladys Rice, Peralee Shultz, Sue Tucker, Anne Webster, Susie West, Carol Williamson, and husband Otis Jones. Dallas Ramsey brought his 82 year old father, William "Lewis" to the tourney to observe, meet, & visit with players.

We welcome Raleigh Johnson back to tournament checkers who hasn't played a state or district since 2001 because he needed to stay close and take care of his wife Sara. She died 12/4/2010.

Sunday service was enjoyable with opening invocation, singing: Amazing Grace by Ken Christian, Duet by Faye & Mary, and Don Cowan played "Unclouded Days" on harmonica , and a message by Larry, Elbert, and Ted.

Don Cowan shared these two poems which I think you will enjoy, although I met Don for the first time, he is an interesting and entertaining fellow who makes you feel as if you have known him for years.
